Chris started his business in Sept of 2010 after he researched the plight of Scottish apple varieties. There is no commercial Traditional CRAFT cider maker in Scotland (confirmed by Scotland's CAMRA Representative). Over the years most of Scotlands apples have been dismissed as not commercially viable and therefore most orchards have been grubbed up. He set about finding local apple trees and now collects from over 800 trees within Dumfries and Galloway. They only use apples for their cider from within dumfries and galloway. It is therefore 100% scottish.
The cider is called MUCKLE TOON ROSIE, this is because Langholm( Chris's home town) is called the muckle toon. They make a dry cider, a medium sweet still cider and will soon be having some carbonated by a local brewer to accomadate the commercial market. This year they will produce approx 4500 bottles, next year their target is to produce over 10,000 bottles.
Chris also has a facebook page - waulkmill cider orchard.
