The Deanston Distillery is located on the banks of the River Teith Just outside the town of Doune, in Perthshire. The buildings originally date back to 1785 and were originally operated as a cotton mill. The Vaulted warehouse was the weaving shed,

During 1965-66 the cotton mill was converted to a distillery by the Deanston Distillery Co Ltd, This included taking out four internal floors to accommodate the stills and other equipment. Burn Stewart Distillers purchased Deanston in 1990 and have won export achievement and company-turnaround awards. An interesting feature is the use of water-powered turbines as the energy source, something that was a familiar sight to those working Scotland’s distilleries a century ago.

Only about 15% of the whisky produced here is sold as single malt, the rest of it is used in blends. The most  notable of these blends is Scottish Leader blended whisky.  In 1995 Burn Stewart commissioned a gin distillery on the Deanston site making it capable of producing the highest quality distilled London dry gin.

Scottish Leader Scotch Whisky

A masterful blend of up to 30 of the finest Scotch whiskies – 25 single malt and 5 grain whiskies – creating a full-bodied, well-balanced combination with a coppery gold colour, a rich honey taste and a lingering peaty finale.

At the heart of this dram is the renowned Deanston Single Malt, from the 18th Century Deanston Distillery on the clear waters of the River Teith.
