Brewer Rob James started the Hillside Brewery in 2006 brewing at his house in Lumphanan. The brewery produced about 200 pints per week for shops and pubs in Deeside. Demand for the beers grew and Rob moved to bigger premises.
The new brewery increased capacity to about 3,000 pints per week. The 10-barrel brewery plant was installed in December 2008 at the Deeside Activity Park and brewing commenced in early 2009, it was then named the Deeside Brewery.
