Review : This is a terrible bar and a tourist trap. This bar is the closest to the castle and should be great, but it's not. There is no atmosphere, it is too dark inside and the smells from the kitchen were funny and made me not want to eat here. The toilets have a number lock on them, you have to buy something before you can use them and then remember the number that the bar staff unwillingly give you. The history of the building and the decor inside earn this bar the 2 points I have given in the review.
Avoid this bar and go to the Jolly Judge which is just down the road.

I agree with your comments. It should be a great pub and its the exact opposite. Couldn't wait to finish my pint and get out of there.

I found it to be authentic and the food was a little above average. The staff seemed neither friendly nor unfriendly. The atmosphere was dark, low ceilings with wooden beams but that is what you expect in a 400 year old bar. Or at least what I expect. It is a pitty the staff wasn't more friendly or welcoming but other than that it was a great place to have a drink and lunch after touring the castle.
