The Glengoyne Distillery is located close to Glasgow in the town of Dumgoyne, near Kilearn. Glengoyne was founded around 1833 on the strangest of locations, precisely between the Highlands and the Lowlands. The Glengoyne Distillery has been through the hands of many different owners, including John McLelland and Lang Brothers. They changed the name of the distillery to Glen Guin in1875, and then back again to Glengoyne around the year 1905. Glengoyne was rebuilt in 1966 and 1967, at which time the number of stills was extended from two to three. The currents owners are Ian Macleod Distillers.

Here are a selection of whiskies produced at the Glengoyne Distillery:

Glengoyne 10 Y/O  40%

Unlike most other single malts Glengoyne has been preserving the essence of its flavour for decades by using air-dried barley rather than barley dried using harsh peat smoke. The result is a more subtle, complex whisky in which all of the delicate flavours are freely allowed to express themselves.

Appearance:   Golden yellow. Clear and bright
Nose:              Sweet, with toffee and popcorn aromas. Slightly nutty, with fresh green apples coming through
Mouthfeel:      Warming
Initial Taste:   Clean. Green apples and grass with a hint of sweet liquorice
After Water:    Sweeter. Linseed oil and almonds.
Finish:             Sweet and malty

Glengoyne 12 Y/O 100%

Discover the real taste of single malt. Distilled from air-dried barley without peat smoke, and using the soft, pure local water, this unique whisky is bottled unchill-filtered at cask strength to preserve its natural flavour.

Appearance:   Amber, syrupy. Sauternes.
Nose:              Oak, sherry, digestive biscuits, sweet oatcakes, banana, apricot, peaches, marzipan and peardrops.
Mouthfeel:      Viscous, rich and filling
Initial Taste:   Smooth, sweet start, with some sherry and chocolate.
After Water:    Becomes slightly waxy, with pepper at the tail.
Finish:             Very long, stays with you until morning!
Comments:     First released September 2004, this is a welcome addition to the family. This is 100 Proof, but you'd never know it. It slips down a treat and is probably at its best without water.

For the very first time we have used 1st fill bourbon wood in one of our core range, there is also less sherry wood as a result giving a completely different taste and nose. The majority of the wood is USA/European refill casks, the whisky is also chill filtered. In summary, it's nothing like the cask strength, the only thing that is the same is the age statement.

Appearance:    Natural rich gold.
Nose:               Coconut oil, lemon zest, honey and dried malt.
Mouthfeel:       Warming.
Initial Taste:    Toffee apples and cinnamon spice.
After Water:     Ginger, fresh orange and shortbread.
Finish:             Mellowed by hints of sherry and soft oak. Well balanced.

Glengoyne 17 Y/O 43%

Glengoyne's distinctive style carries on improving with age. The same elements are present at 17 years old as they were at 10, only now the balance has artfully changed. A more concentrated, equally well-balanced palate of flavours has emerged, though it still retains the same clean, delicate taste as the 10 Years Old.

Appearance:    Medium gold with a rich glow
Nose:               Some sherry, Christmas pudding. Plenty of fruit - raisins, ripe apples and tinned oranges in syrup
Mouthfeel:       Rich, mouth-coating
Initial taste:     Malty, treacle, slightly nutty. Orange peel, apple compot. Rich oak.
After Water:     Pear Drops and vanilla
Finish:             Long and rich, with spicy oak
Comments:      Multi award winning dram. One of the greats. Possibly the best pound for pound dram on the market.

Glengoyne 21 Y/O 43%

Another four years in the cask sees Glengoyne 21 Years Old achieve the optimum balance of flavours and the maximum benefits from the wood.

Appearance:    Deep Copper, Meandering Legs
Nose:               Red apples, toffee, sherry, spicy strudel.
Mouthfeel:       Coating
Initial Taste:    Lots of Sherry, honey, oak with a developing aromatic sensation. Ends with a heavenly cinnamon nip.
Finish:             Long, sherry, spicy, warm and dry
Comments:     New in April 2007. Glengoyne 21 now achieves the optimum balance of flavours and the maximum benefits from our specially selected 100% first fill European Oak Sherry casks.

Glengoyne 1972 43%

The year 1972 was a significant year in our history - Polaroid launched the world's first instant camera, the pocket calculator was invented, Nike sold its first pair of running shoes and Glengoyne laid down some exquisite casks of their Highland Single Malt for maturation. These have now been bottled and are ready for sale!

Appearance:    A natural pale, yet bright Imperial gold. The light syrupy smoothness creates slowly forming legs on the glass which slowly meander.
Nose:              The fruitiness of bananas, sweeties and fruit punch combine with the rich, yet subtle floral notes of apple blossom and elderflower, followed by nectarine and grapefruit with hints of vanilla pod and dry oak wood.
Taste/body:   Light and syrup smooth at first with hints of liquorice and a spicy sweetness, followed by a ladder of delicate lemon peel and light cashew to reach new heights with an explosion of rich honeycomb sweetness and light oak. The aftertaste is dry and sweet, leading to an almond bitterness and aniseed.
Finish:            A medium to long dry, lingering finish which is sweet and mouth warming, followed by glazed orange and sweet kaki. A delightfully rich candy concoction.
