The Knockdhu Distillery was built in 1893 by the Distillers Company Ltd.
It was built to provide more Whisky for the very popular Haig Blend. Its location was chosen not just because there was locally produced barley and peat, but because there was several high quality springs on Knock Hill. The Distillery closed in 1983 due to cost cutting, but was bought five years later by Inver House Distillers.
The Knockdhu Distillery now produces excellent single malt Whisky under the name anCnoc. A large proportion of the Whisky from here also goes into blends such as Haig, Hankey, Bannister and Pinwhinnie.
