The Macallan Distillery was legally established in 1823, due to the 1823 Excise Act making legal distilling much more lucrative, although it had operated for many more years before that date. It was originally licensed to Alexander Reid but has had many owners since that time. One notable owner was the Kemp family, who retained a large interest in the distillery for over a hundred years. The Distillery is currently owned by The Edrington Group.

Thr Distillery has grown in size over the years and now has 27 stills, the last six stills having been added in 2008/9 when a dormant still house was re - commissioned. There has also been two new state of the art warehouses added to the site.

This Distillery produces lots of excellent single malts, The Macallan 10 Year Old being one of the best loved single malts in Scotland. A large amount of the whisky produced here also goes into blends such as Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark.

Nose:   Quite light and clean. There are notes of rubbed petals and apple blossom and hot pastries. Marmalade emerges with notes of sherried peels and barley sugars, vanilla fudge provides sweetness.

Palate:  Medium-body and well-rounded. There are notes of walnut and salty melted butter. Hints of fudge and crème anglaise. The finish is of medium-length and quite oaky.

The Famous Grouse 40%

Unmistakably smooth blend which marries the finest malt whiskies with superb grain whiskies. The result is a full, golden, bright colour and a perfect balance of flavours, with a hint of citrus that provide the distinctively long, clean finish.
