The Madcap brewery operates from a one barrel, capacity brew plant, which is currently housed in purpose built building at the rear of John Maddison's home in Annan. The Maddison's are a family team who have always been passionate about beer, especially Belgian strong ales and more recently, craft produced beers from American microbreweries. During the late 1980s / early 1990s they operated a specialist beer shop called ‘Beers Unique’ at North Shields in the North East, where they imported and retailed a wide range of Belgian bottled beers. Their brewing knowledge was obtained through Sunderland Universities ‘Brewlab’ courses, and experience gained by almost two years working with ‘Hadrian Brewery’ in Newcastle – upon – Tyne. Currently producing four casks at a time, they are hoping that in due course the company will be able to expand.

The Tartan Pint
