The Scapa Distillery was established in 1885 by a Glasgow based company called MacFarlane & Townsend. The distillery has passed through Many hands over the years and has been closed and opened a few times. In 2004 the Scapa Distillery was comprehensively upgraded and is now owned by Chivas Brothers Ltd. This distillery produces some single malts but by far the most of its whisky goes into blends such as Ballantine's.
