The Strathisla Distillery was established in 1786 by George Taylor and Alexander Milne and went under the name "The Milton Distillery". Over the next few owners the Distillery was briefly called Strathisla then named "The Milton - Keith Distillery. Its had a fairly colourful history and was eventually made bankrupt when its owner, George Pomperoy, was convicted of tax evasion in 1949.
The Distillery was bought by Chivas Bros in1950. They then began restoring and upgrading the facilities. The Distillery was re - named "The Strathisla Distillery" in 1951 and the number of stills was doubled to four in 1965. It's now owned by Pernod Ricard.

Most of the whisky produced here goes into Chivas Regal blends, although they do produce a nice 12 year old single malt.

Strathisla 12 Year Old 43%

Rich and inviting on the nose, with Sherry, stewed fruits, spices and lots of malt. Full-bodied and almost syrupy on the palate. Well-mannered, with toffee, honey, nuts, a whiff of peat and a suggestion of oak. The finish is medium in length, slightly smoky, with more oak and a final flash of ginger.
