Review : This is one of Edinburgh's oldest pubs with parts of this building dating back to the 1740's. It is also said, but not proven, that Robert Burns stayed here on his last trip to Edinburgh. This pub is in the grassmarket which is a great area for drinking and eating as there is lots of choice all around you. I was last here on a Saturday night during the festival and the bar was packed and there was live entertainment on, i.e. a singer guitarist and the place was jumping ! I sang along, probably too loudly and out of tune, but I wasn't the only one. The bar itself is smaller than you would expect but it is welcoming and decorated in a old world style with lots of tankards hanging from the ceiling and wooden walls and furniture. We got served quick enough but we had to ask the barmaid twice to top up our pints as they were well below the top of the glass.
Worth a visit.
